Take Time

Say hello to someone new...

Take time for a morning walk
Get out, beat the heat
Slow down, stop to chat and talk
To folks you may meet.

Ring up who you're thinking of
Listen... understand
Hold hands with the one you love
Stay close while you can...

Take the time to make somebody smile
Say hello to someone new
Tomorrow may not be there for everyone
A better day for all is up to you.

Take time for a special trip
With Dad or your son
Do things that you've always dreamed
Go on have some fun

Someday moments just like these
Etched deep in your soul
Will guide you in distant years
When age takes its toll

So take the time to make somebody smile
Say hello to someone new
Tomorrow may not be there for everyone
A better day for all is up to you.

Time keeps moving
Much too fast
Hold on to your memories
Make them last... Make them last...

Take the time to make somebody smile
Say hello to someone new
Tomorrow may not be there for everyone
A better day for all is up to you

So take your time and smile
It's always worth your while
A better day for all is up to you.

About the Music
March 2022 - These days I am not churning out too many vocal tunes but this one seemed to yearn for lyrics. With so much negativity surrounding us still—even as the pandemic is waning—I thought it would be nice to focus for a change on something positive: how a simple smile can be rewarding (and contagious!).

Sure maybe the words are a bit corny at times but perhaps old-fashioned sentiments are in need of revival in these perpetually troublesome times. Of course as we age, it's important to maintain friendships and continually nurture family relations. One never knows what tomorrow sorrows might be...

Although the song is a bit "jazzy" sounding1, adding a bit of pedal steel guitar2 gives it a country flavor. And yes...that's the sweet sound of the Native American Bass Flute heard after the bridge.

1 - maj7ths, add9s in the piano part, etc.

2 - Pedal Steel: Roland D-50
