Sunbeams

"I was caught in inside a sunbeam,
it was only passing through,
but for moment all was gold
and life shone gently with its hue.

Time hung suspended like a dust mote
in the spotlight of that ray.
Sometimes I seek out magic,
sometimes it finds me either way"

Sunbeams

This tune was written ages ago and resurrected this month as a beautiful trombone ballad. I believe I wrote this way back in college days and when I moved to Boston, I arranged it for a small band I co-lead with Berklee musicians. It's name has evolved over the years...

  • Gentle Persuasion (the Berklee wise guys loved to call it "Gentle Perversion")
  • Closely
  • Quiet Waters (a new age version)
  • Sunbeams

Truth be told... I had to practice quite a bit to get my high notes back (it ends with a high F...)

Many thanks to the friends who contributed the various stunning photos of sunbeams. Credits and Further Details »
