Solar Winds

What are solar winds?

  • Solar winds are streams of charged particles released from the upper atmosphere of the Sun, called the corona. Made of electrons, protons and heavier ions, the solar wind courses through the solar system at roughly 1 million mph (1.6 million kph), barreling over everything in its path

What are solar flares?

  • A solar flare is an intense burst of radiation coming from the release of magnetic energy associated with sunspots. Flares are our solar system’s largest explosive events. They are seen as bright areas on the sun and they can last from minutes to hour.

About The Video
On July 19, 2012, an eruption occurred on the sun that produced a moderately powerful solar flare and a dazzling magnetic display known as coronal rain. The footage in the video was collected by the Solar Dynamics Observatory's AIA instrument. The Solar Dynamics Observatory collected one frame every 12 seconds, and the movie plays at 30 frames per second, so each second in this video corresponds to 6 minutes of real time. Source

About the Music
I put a few very powerful, distinctive sounds together for this soundscape groove (Roland D-550, JV-1080, etc.) When I saw that the NASA video was availble for download, I jumped at the chance to add my own music to it!
